What's happening?

First of all, apologys to you for doing a lousy job of keeping updated. It's the old rule, the things that pay are the things that get first priority. I am trying to do better in the future.

Suzie's first book is now on Amazon!

She and I were going to go to the Emerald City Comicon last weekend until we saw the number of people waiting in line just to get tickets. We decided Pike Street Market sounded a lot more fun!

Also, the book version of Wandering Ones: Scout Trail is over a buck off on Amazon at the moment. If you buy (or have bought it, I could use a few reviews.... (just sayin')

Suzie's first Ebook is available! The Paradox: Soldier and the Mystic (will be available on Amazon in a few weeks and in print version in August) http://www.bookstrand.com/the-paradox-the-soldier-and-the-mystic If you want to read a good story, I'd appreciate it if you'd check this out. Thanks! -Clint

It's been a busy couple of months, but my mom and dad are both home and things are on an even keel for a while. Whew! This has been a year of ups and downs!

Susie, for example, while helping the family through thick and thin has also had an offer on both her first two books through Siren Bookstrand and she is pretty excited, but now she's locked in her room making all the requested edits. I sure hope she's done by Christmas! :D

As for me, I work, wander, rest when I can. (Any one know where that quote came from?)

I keep wanting to come up with a sunny cheery report for you all, but aging parents rarely give you that opportunity. So, I've decided to talk about something of no consequence, my Ipad. I got an Ipad 1 back in March on Ebay, for a trip Suzie and I were taking and used it so much, that Suzie dubbed it "the girlfriend". Since then, it has pretty much been my daily companion at work. I take it for lunch and if not checking my email at a wifi enabled restaurant then I'm using it to re-read all my Barbara Hambly books on Kindle and of course listening to podcasts in my car on the 45 minute commute to and from Leavenworth. My Ipad helps me keep it together. And now, Amazon is coming out with their Kindle Fire. I wonder if getting one for my mom loaded with her favorite authors would help her keep it together mentally. Probably a forlorn hope. Her laptop is used soley for Solitaire and her new cell phone we bought is a great little watch gadget. Henh.

OK, We are transferring dad to Colonial Vista. After visiting the place, it was amazing the difference in atmosphere. They have a great rehab place with aqua therapy and he will have his own room. The ratio is at least 7 staff for every 30 people (as opposed to the 1 to 30 at Cashmere). The food is also a lot better. (Dad said the food at Cashmere was something that came out of the south end of a northbound dog) He has beet getting worse where he is, and I seriously think he will improve at Colonial Vista.

What a week! I'm sorry for missing three updates in a row, but my new job is very intense at this, the learning stage. Add to that that my 86 year old dad took a fall on Monday, August 22 and Suzie wound up taking time away from work to tend to him and my mom... well, it's now Saturday, and she and I are about done in. But the job will get easier as I get more experience (and talk about job security, I'm the only full time designer there!) My dad has gone into temporary assisted living to get the care he needs to get back on his feet. Suzie and I tried to take care of him and my mom and quickly learned that professional caregivers EARN every bit of money they make!

I am now re-employed! In Leavenworth! My life seems to be paralleling this comic strip, but fortunately, no lederhosen! (yet) Off to the Earthwalk Northwest primitive skills gathering this weekend then off to work on Monday.

My novel is now up to 10,000 words! Wahoo! Also walked 5 miles this morning!

I always find it jarring to have to go to seminars at the unemployment office. Totally harshes my mellow!

June 13, 2011
I think I mentioned it before, but I'm on TWITTER now! Wanderclint.

As you saw above, I got the axe. On June 10, 2011, my association with the newspaper industry was ended (permanently) when I was laid off at the Wenatchee World. No need to fret. I had had my desk packed up for over a month, when a fellow employee, one who did a lot of the heavy lifting (as did I) was let go.

So now I'm unemployed, and it may turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to me. Now, I have time to work on ALL the projects I've been champing at the bit to finish, including the Scout Trail story which is eleven pages of coloring and and a front cover from completion. I have time to build a site for my new comic, Starting from Scratch and and the new half page format for Wandering Ones will allow me to update three time a week. Oh, and I started a novel. A tracker based murder mystery. I'm only a thousand words in, but it's flowing really well. I also might eventually have time to start updating Shin Kage again! Oh, and there's updating the resumé...

Did I mention I'm excited?

The Paper has generously given me severance through August, and I have started a schedule that pretty much equals a 7 hour work day every day (with an hour for excercise).

So, if you're worried about me, don't be. I will not only survive, I intend to THRIVE! :D

Looking Forward. - Clint Hollingsworth
